Art Journal: Prepping for Vacation

As the clock ticks down and we get ready to depart for our big trip to Yosemite and San Francisco, I am in full packing mode.  In my own way.

Yes, I have the suitcase out and have been doing laundry and folding things just so, but I have also been thinking about how I want to nourish myself while I am on vacation, and part of that is trying a new journaling medium.

I kept seeing different YouTube artists like the frugalcrafter  and Mike Deakin Art using the Derwent Inktense pencils and being utterly impressed with the vibrant colors and lushness of the finished product that I ordered a set last week off Amazon.

In addition to the pencils, I procured a waterbrush and a small watercolor journal.  This is my art kit for the trip.

Art Kit!

The journal was yellow when I bought it the other day and I thought it looked very unappealing, so I took a piece of leftover kraft paper from wrapping all of A.D.’s prints, cut it to size and adhered it to the front.  I then used some of my homemade paper to attempt a neat little collage.  I used heavy gel as the adhesive and overcoating, it’s still a little wet in the pics, hence the glare.  I need to be more patient.

Collage!

The joy of making this cover was that I was just doing it.  I didn’t think about it or research much technique, I just went for it and it feels pretty good.  Nourish accomplished.

I plan to go through all of my unread books and pick one to enjoy on the plane.  I’ve got a lot of those.

This trip has been three years coming and I can’t wait!
