On Greener Grasses…and Gratitude

I just had an epiphany.

I was reading through a list of how to become a better blogger and my mind went to how glamorous and exciting life seems for many of the people I follow online and in podcast land.

True, some of them are wildly successful (@hardwick), but others are likely just like me and slogging away at the day-to-day.  It looks glamorous or exciting to the outsider:  we don’t see them taking out the garbage or doing dishes.

The grass is always greener on the outside looking in.

I think of my partner.  He has dedicated years of pretty intense work and little return to get where he is today.  It’s really quite impressive the level of intent and perseverance he has demonstrated over the past 7 years.  I’m uncertain if I have the same ability.

Until I think about it.  And I know I am able.  I just don’t see that in myself at the outset.  Most of us don’t.  We see the greener grass and forget the hard work that went into that lawn care.  It’s just greener and we want it.  Now.

So that’s my thought for the day.  If you are working to your maximum and feel like you are going crazy, you are likely on the same path as your heroes, just a step behind or unable to see them struggle.

Keep up the hard work and show gratitude for the privilege of being capable.
