Sketchy is the newest of my series. I think I like to do things in series, it makes me comfortable. Linking your learning shows progress over time and that leads to feelings of accomplishment and achievement. I am nothing if not an achiever.
So what’s Sketchy all about? The linkage between my photography and my pen, ink and watercolor studies. Simple enough. It truly started with this post on Christmas Day about the course I took on Craftsy.
In each addition to this series, I will share a snippet of story, the original photo and the associated sketch.
The Story
The chosen photo was taken on a little photo expedition with A.D. and our friend Tony from TrueVision Photography on the only freezing day in December 2015. He brought winter with him from Colorado, and honestly, despite the fact that I thought I was going to become an icicle, it couldn’t have been better. The only thing worse than a winter in Upstate NY is a winter landscape with no snow!
We ventured first to Severne Point on Seneca Lake for sunrise over the lake and then returned toward Montour Falls, NY for a warming breakfast at The Blue Ribbon Diner. It’s a local spot with great fare at a reasonable price and supports the community.
After our breakfast, we headed toward Ithaca, NY and Taughannock Falls State Park for shots of the tallest single-drop waterfall east of the Rockies. It’s a sight.
Since the photos I took of the falls didn’t work out as planned, literally first day with a new camera, I ended up picking one of the photos of sunrise over the lake to sketch. I liked the dried milkweed in the foreground.
